Taurya was founded by Nrutya Vishaarad (Kathak) Mrs. Ramaa Manjrekar (née Shilpa Sawale), MSEE, MBA, and Dr. Madhav Manjrekar in Cary, North Carolina, USA, in 2006 with a two-fold mission:

1. To impart formal education in Kathak (a classical dance form from Northern India) to interested students, and

2. To provide a forum for performing arts

At Taurya, we offer accredited classes to learn classical and traditional Kathak.

Interested students can enroll at beginners, intermediate or advanced levels.

Formal exams are conducted and a certification from Gaandharva Mahaavidyaalaya, India, is awarded upon successful completion of the program requirements.

Every year, students perform in at least two local events and participate in one Kathak workshop conducted by a renowned artist from India.

Students and associates also organize and perform in an annual Taurya recital.

Traditional Kathak costumes, jewelry and bells (ghoongroo) are provided to all students.

Taurya is committed to support and promote local, domestic and international artists in the areas of music, dance and theatre.

Every year, we organize at least two performances by invited artisits and troupes of international reputation.

Taurya has also been active in conceptualizing, producing and organizing performances and events with the help of local artists that help commemorate  India's vibrant culture and propogate Indian heritage.

We also provide hosting facilities at "The Forum" - a 2000 sqft performing arts studio with seating capacity of 100, and equipped with state of the art amenities, available  for rent to teach aspects of music, dance & theatre and host public and private events.
