Mrs. Ramaa Manjrekar, née Shilpa Sawale, received her first lessons in Indian Classical Dance (Bharatanaatyam and Kathak) from Mrs. Poonum Murdeshwar in Thane (near Mumbai, Maharashtra) in India.

Thereafter Ramaa has been learning the finer nuances of Kathak from Dr. Mrs. Manjiri Deo, Founder-Director of Ganesh Cultural Academy, Thane, India, and Taalmani Pandit Mukundraj Deo.

Mrs. Manjrekar received the degree of Nrutya-Vishaarad (equivalent to baccalaureate degree) from Gaandharva Mahaavidyaalaya in 1995.

She also received her B.E. in Instrumentation & Control from Government College of Engineering, Pune, India, in 1993, M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, in 1998, and M.B.A. in Finance from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2008.

Currently residing in USA, Ramaa Manjrekar has been offering lessons in Kathak for past fifteen years in Milwaukee, WI, and recently in Raleigh, NC.

In 2006, she co-founded Taurya with her husband Dr. Madhav Manjrekar, which is dedicated to imparting formal training in kathak to interested students and promoting the art forms of music, dance and theatre.

Mrs. Ramaa Manjrekar lives in Cary, NC, with her husband Madhav and their two children Surabhi and Soham.
